i'm using the factory window that moves and trying to have the fixed glass cut down or custom made. i've been planning it out for about 2 years. i bought the pathfinder off ebay over 2 yrs ago with a rotted out frame, but a clean body. i bought the pickup a little over a year ago, with the same problem. i didnt want to start until i was 100% ready, but i dont want someone to come out with one before i do. the doors will be a little longer than the double cab navara. looking at the pictures it looks like it could use a little more room anyway.
once the doors are built i can section in the cab and make a frame. i finally have a garage to work out of so itll be easier to do than under my costco tent, lol.
cool. your in for ALOT of work but if done right will be bad ass. ive seen a few trucks built this way. and alot have tried. i hope u pull it off

thanks pugz
it really comes down to breaking it down into small manageable pieces. doors first, clip next, frame, bodydrop, bodywork, paint.
my maxima was totaled when i bought it and i changed the rear clip. best and easiest way to do it(when hit that hard), so long as you reinforce the points where you dont section it at a factory location. the floor was done at a factory seam and the rockers and sail panels were overlapped , welded inside and out on the inside then closed up on the outside. it's been 3 years and i've never had an issue.
some people would cut the doors in half and butt weld it together. if you look at the doors i cut out the skin, this way i could cut out the reinforcement and replace it once the frame is built. the frame will overlap on the inside, not for the strength of the panel but for the strength of the weld. thin a$$ metal will burn through when butt welded, so if you could have an overlapping weld you have less of a chance of burning through, and less finish work on the welds. plus with the skin off i could properly prime and seal the inside welds. i thought about changing the skin completely, but the front edge would still have to be welded on instead of crimped on, so i dont want to spend 300 bucks a door to still do plastic on 50% of it.
anyway, snowing today and i got home at 8, probably no updates until the weekend.

i to have been plannig on doing this but have still not been able to get ahole of a pathfinder for a desent price
i bought my pathy on ebay for 50 bucks i think(maybe 150, either way it was cheap!). i paid 300 to have it delivered though. it used to be a priest's truck and the frame rotted out. the body was mint though. i've been sitting on it for over 2 yrs trying to figure out how to do it right, and waiting to build a garage. now that i have the garage, time to start it.
anyway here's the update for the night:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z182/shavedmax/DSCN1046.jpg
the only thing that's bugging me right now is the factory indent on the left side of the door. the easy way to get rid of it would be to weld on a piece of metal, then cut the other piece off the truck. but then the proportions on the door would be off. if i cut out the top of the frame and move it forward it hits an inside reinforcement, plus then i have to move the center bar over too. i'm probably just over analizing it, but eventually i want to suicide the doors and i think it'll look ackward.

i think hes cutting the back half of a 4 door pathy off and replacing it with the back half of a front door to make a "square" door like that of a 4 door HB,then hes going to chop n change a single cab into a double cab truck

that would be awesome. i had thought of trying to import a back glass to make it exact, but shipping glass is too risky, plus i do want it to be a little bigger. if you could measure the bottom below the bodyline(about 50mm from the bottom) in the center(either by the indented body line or under the window) and at the very top.

haha, i did that 3 years ago(maybe even four) but didnt think it was possible to do then. it's snowing out right now and i dont feel like freezing or else i'd trim out the doors a little more. i think i have the length the way i want it now, i'm just not sure if it really is a big square or if it should have some curve to it. i'm planning on using the mounting from the front inside door handle but the rear door window crank mount.......attached to the front window regulator so it'll open all the way. i'm thinking of buying another set of doors, with power windows.
the one with the 2 door rear is actually pretty cool, but i'm not changing up now.

does the top of your door have a crown or is it perfectly straight? the pathy door has no crown to it,
but the front door starts to curve very close to the back.
thanks again for the info!

How big is your door?
you are the man! wanna ship me your glass?
my door right now is 825mm(32.5 inches for us on the left side of the globe)
so my door is 3.5 inches longer than a navara double cab. i think it looks better longer, plus i can use the fixed glass without spending a ton of money on custom made glass.(i'm trying to have someone cut it for me)
for anyone wondering, the pathfinder rear glass is 3.5 inches narrower than a double cab glass.
Swschz
12-20-2008, 10:17 PM
sorry man, dont want to ship glass,im missing a rear left piece of glass myself (had a chap try shave a door-weld splatter hit the window) and they hard enough to come by,let alone a pair.
yea,you will definatly appreciate the extra legroom.....bugger all room in the back of mine....not that i care coz i am the sole driver :)...but it will save you from having to move ya seat forward abit.
so thats a difference of 80mm,thats a decent bit.
if you need any interior trim pieces let me know...when you get to that stage,im keen to do trades for airbag parts etc.......stuff in NZ is expensive

so what's the width of the Crewcab window and the Pathy sliding window? 22.5" and 19"?
my pathy window is in the snow right now so i cant give you an exact on it, but the frame opening is 16.5 inches, the glass is probably 17. therefore, a double cab glass is probably 20/20.5 inches wide.

i'm not planning on welding anything up yet until i have the cab ready, in case i need to adjust anything. the pathy door does tend to taper toward the back, i'm not sure if i'll adjust that or leave it so the roof looks better.

nah, i'll overlap it and use spot welds just like the factory did. you really cant see but the piece of metal exposed(not covered by the carpet) is actually spot welded about 6 inches in. i'm going to take that off and weld the new floor where that used to be. this way once it's painted it looks like it was supposed to be there. it also lets me offset the cuts between the floor and rocker panels making the rockers overlap. then i'll butt weld the inside of the rockers from both sides and weld the outer rocker in as a cover.

i could have shipped you a crew cab...
for free?:D
i know a dozen people on this site that would jump at that offer, but i think the shipping is still going to be alot of money. probably cheaper or the same as having one built by someone. i only have 1000 dollars into it so far between the two donor trucks. i work cheap for myself, lol.

1st off, my first post and i have to say KUDOS to the work you are doing, second....ive built a Crewcab Isuzu pup, and started the same way you did. One difference, i built the cab first THEN the doors. Made sure the cab was square and rigid before attempting the doors. I started the same way, built 2 doors and even though they measured the same, i couldnt get the cab squared up right. heres some pics of mine completed (well minus paint and final body work):

yes thats a longbed and it has amigo 1/4 panels grafted on it. If you need any pointers about building your truck, hit me up. Im in NJ 07662,not sure how far from you.....but it took me 7 years to get this far, as a side project/toy along with building a house, a family and a few other trucks along the way....ive redone the truck twice and building a new frame for it now (less pieces, cleaner work) so i must say, good luck and measure twice :)

that's awesome ron!
i built the doors but only cleco'd them together so i could adjust them if needed. i just wanted a symetrical reference point so it'll be easier to get things to align, then i'll weld them up. looks like you're crazy for rodeos too huh?
the amigo bedsides make it look like a dually which is cool. i thought about making mine a dually, but i dont think the lines will work out nicely.
i'm an hour east of manhattan, we should try to get together sometime and check out your truck. i've been too busy work wise to really be able to finish off the truck or go to shows though.

hey, im right about 5 minutes from the GWB, rt80/17/4/208/ etc....next to Paramus.
As far as the cab goes, just measure measure measure....in x patterns. tack weld angle iron from corner to corner to stabilze, then weld it up. Clecoing...SMART man.....this way you can adjust the door gaps as needed. thats why i built my cab (the second time) first, then the doors. i did the math on the chevy crewcab door size. 66%....the rear doors are about 2/3rds the size of the fronts. I over laid the door skins from the front door which is also the back door post. only issue is the top door line angles slightly downward...but i can live with that. The truck started out as a Spacecab, grafted a Rodeo roof and B pillar in for the rear door swing. the inards of the rear doors are Rodeo rear doors so i kept the gasket shape and hinge swing. lexan section of window and a 98 Rodeo rear door glass for the main part. Curve is off alittle so they might stay stationary for now....waiting for time and money to finish and paint...interior is going to be awhile and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, so we are both in the same boat....heres more pics of my projects:

Wow you've had a shitload of isuzus. and i thought i was nuts having 3 nissan trucks. you had to have it tough trying to make the center pilars square up to the rear cab and front cab. thats why i used a pathfinder, all i have to worry about is the rear matching up.
any plans to body drop it? it would look awesome on the floor.
wanna bring it to new york? there's a bbq in queens next saturday. i'm trying to have my maxima done for it.

almost there. gotta weld the outer rocker on the other side and weld up the roof. the hole in the middle of the floor will be fixed with a raised trans tunnel once the frame is built. still dont know what roof i'll use. i have a pontiac g6 panoramic roof, but it's too curved to use on the truck. i'd like a sliding rag, but i dont it to be too noisy.

I did a mercedes hard panel sliding roof from a mercedes G wagon into a pathfinder and it fit well.
as for the glass, and apologies if somene has said it but summitt sells speedglass which is high quality plastic thats usd in race cars and you can shape it any way you want.
or find some other glass thats square like you need and curved. like maybe a crew cab ford or chevy or dodge fullsize rear window. maybe even an old square body cevy rear door glass. the curve will be close enough to work in the rubber.
we do armored glass and most doors have a very similar curve and the stock glass groove in the rubber will allow for a bit different curve.

i got the front door regulator working on the rear door so the glass goes down all the way. it's a little tougher than i would expect, but it could have a different angle/curve.
i also welded up the top of the door, did some rough bodywork to it and welded back in the door reinforcement(safety first bitches). i had to use the mount from the front door since the rear door tubes were thinner.

yup, u dont think itll fit? :)
i didnt forget about your pictures either, i actually took them about a month ago, but my wife deleted them. there's about 6-8 inches between the seats when the front seat's all the way back. i just ended up storing things inside, so i cant retake the picture easily

just use the front of the frame and build a whole new one, from fire wall back, that what i did. the 2x3 sits right inside the frame.

snowed today so no work. i have to work monday for it. luckily the metal supply place was open, so i got my 2x4, cut the front clip off, trimmed it, still need to take some more measurements. i plan to make my own body mounts, the old one is there just for referance. i decided to extend the frame past the kick in to make all 6 body mounts the same.
i was originally going to just run the 2x4 inside the frame, but there was a reinforcement in the way. i could still get it in, but it would be at least 1/4 inch higher that way. this way the frame is actually an inch and a half shorter,

Don't go to fast and not do it right. You mess up a door and it looks messed up, you mess up the frame you die. Good start so far!

my wooley and todays progress.
i got both rails drilled out a foot from the end dead center to be able to check square. i lengthened the reinforcement on the outside end and fixed a rust spot my the trans crossmember. stupidly i didnt think to slide the other side rail to check and make sure that the rails were parallel, so i had to cut the welds out and fix that, but i ran out of gas. i have to figure out what to do on the drivers side trans mount. it's too high. but i'll cross that bridge next weekend.

as if! i saw you mount the body to the frame so i wanted to be just like you.
actually it was a nice day so i wanted to do some test fitting to see what needs to be clearanced where. even though i stepped down the front clip where the rails meet up it still hits the firewall . i need to either hit the firewall in some or if that doesnt do it then i'll notch it. i also have 4 2x6 spaced i need to cut wider so i can gain an inch of room for the frame to tuck in. if my calculations are correct i'll be past pinch but not yet rocker. good enough for me.

i placed the bed next to the body to see what it looks like, thats it,lol.
i had a busy summer family wise and bought a new(read: wrecked) daily that i had to fix, so that ate up the rest of the time. i had a friend come over last weekend and we moved it, uncovered it, flipped over the bed and placed it next to the truck for some inspiration. i have 2 more pieces to paint on my daily and the frame can go back in the garage

Correct! Designing a new front drop member also for nissan hardbodys. people will be able to gut there front frame clip and slide my suspension up and weld it in and then bam, the front is bagged ready for 22's. no drop spindles at all! :nana1:

yeah i've been slacking.had some home projects to take care of. i bought another one, so it makes a total of 3 and a pathy. none of which i've driven. the last one will stay intact though. i really want a 220 welder to finish the frame work though.

right now its under 2 feet of snow. luckily i pulled the frame into the garage so i can try to finish it, but i need the body to check the body mounts before welding them up solid. plus i really want to weld that up with a 220. the one i wanna buy is a grand, so i'm saving up for it instead of getting getting myself in debt. :)
