Gutted my interior for a dull detail and see that my 2001 x-Cab Frontier XE only has 2 speakers (in doors)... Is this how they all are?

Were there different trim options on frontiers where I could add speakers without fabrication?

If you have added speakers..post pix

I used to have an 01 Frontier Crew Cab. the front door speakers are 6.5" diameter.

They are actually 6.75 it's a really weird size that usually only come from factory cars. I have some 6.5s in mine they fit in the hole... not perfectly, but you can screw them in if you drill a couple of holes. My advice would be to hold on the the spacer portion of the stock speakers as well and try to use them instead of going straigt to the door because no matter what speaker you use, your window will hit it and won't roll all the way down. If not I suppose you could use some MDF or a plastic cutting board to fab up a spacer to fit the 6.5 better.

Mine stock, had the 6.75 down low and tweeters in the top front corner. Crutchfield carries 6.75 and the RF ones i had fit fairly well.

I was taking a close look at the door and at the opposite side from the 6.5 speaker you could put a 4x6 in there without cutting the door panel but you would have to cut the metal behind the grill in the door panel.

.....But why would you? A 4x6 in that location with the speaker pointed at the side of the seat serves what purpose? I mean I guess you could, but its not really going to sound as good as the idea to install it there.I was taking a close look at the door and at the opposite side from the 6.5 speaker you could put a 4x6 in there without cutting the door panel but you would have to cut the metal behind the grill in the door panel.

i took the old speakers out of mine and ripped the cone out of the plastic housing and screwed 6.5's to the plastic housing if not they hit the window when rolled down

I did the exact same thing. Not too hard to screw it into the plastic housing.

mine didnt hit i got some three way 6.5s memphis's with directional tweeters pointed as far up as possible. sounds great no window issues or anything. i have manual windows dont know if that would affect it in anyway. also a nice set of tweeters will fit in the factory tweeter location at the top of the door. sounds great and looks factory
