Ex Cab Long Bed ( Maybe the only dime here)

Well since I found this site and kinda like it I guess ill post my POS up here. Its a 02 sonoma, long story short I bought it with like 12,000 miles on it . I bagged it with SD 3 link and the front,well you know how to bag the front it had all that sh#t. Before I bagged it it was already in the works to do a long bed.

I know no one likes to read so ill be short but heres my story. I drug the shit out of the truck, went thru some gas tanks, trashed my bed sides, and on the way from GA to PA I was dragging and hit a pothole in the road, cracked the welds in the nothces, but fixed them, then did the same thing again so I was like f##k it time to rebuild it.

I decided to do the long bed, and a backhalf since my frame was bent and the bed was all crooked and such. I got ahold of a few people and got my bed. And all the steel and 4 link and what nots to build the frame were from BLF, who helped out a great deal on all of it.

Original plan was to do the longbed over 20 inch semi wheels (which might still happen) and a flat green painjob. But funds stopped that because budjets never work out. So heres a summary on the project from beginning to date.

Then started the build. I scraped together all of the $ I had to buy new parts. I even had to sell my stock seats off to pay for things, but got this junky 1st gen bed for free from a buddy. Still need to make bed mounts, install fuel cell, plate frame, wiring, bag mounts and air set up, wooden bed floor, some cutting, body work on bed and paint for the bed, and my driveshaft needs to be made. Im sure theres alot of other stuff too. I am currently waiting to move into a garage because its to damn cold out and its always wet. The truck should be driving in 2 weeks or so. THIS IS MY DAILY and I havent been able to drive it. I steal my wifes truck all the time and hitch rides to work. It sux. Hope you like.

It does. It didnt before because I had stock spindles but its all good now. I cant get away from the ratted look.

did your bed come off the crew cab longbed one that was built a couple of years back? i just saw his back doors on another project on ssm, so i guess that truck is dead. got any info on it?

Yea the truck was parted out, the cab was being used for another project by someone else to mak a 4x4 quadcab extended cab, but now hes only using the doors and an envoy body. Might be able to get the cab for another project, already in the works. The bed is off Daves truck too.

^^ Yes, and it pretty much was finished, he drove it for quite a while. He parted it out and hes building a new ride now.

Some progress, the truck is moved to its new home for a while. Bought a new welder. Fuel cell installed, bag plates in and bags installed temp., still need to finish the underbar gussets, lower bag plates need to be fully welded in, wiring, fuel and brake lines, and rework the front end. Since a week or so ago all of my wiring and most of everything is done. I had some issues with my driveshaft and fuel system but thats all worked out. I picked up the new driveshaft yesterday and worked hard all night and had it on the road today. Here are some pics... Only issue ive had since ive drove it is i hooked my front drivers side valves up funny and when i dump it it dumps from the tank also. lol. That was dumb but it looked good at the time. I still need to box the rest of the frame in and fix the valve and im good. Now- how to pass inspection and emmission

Thanks guys. The bed was just put on never really aligned or anything so i need some shims in the back. Greg- i fixed the pump last night but im still parking it today inside again. Too cold man my valves are frozen and i need to finish boxing the frame and everything.

The whole thing is gonna get stripped down again and organized and painted and im gonna go thru the electical and clean it up a bit. Prolly will be all good on thursday so il be cruzin around then for a bit.

No, i actually have the notches and backhalf done but i forgot my camera at the garage so ill post the pics 2marr. Im ready to flip the frame and make plates for the bottom of the front where i tied in. And then i need motor mounts and tranny too and ill put the engine back in and do the link setup-gonna look simple but be very interesting. Then cab mnts and z the front, then put her back together.

They look big because he we from the ground over the axle instead of how a normal notch is installed - from a factory frame already a foot off the ground.
