Parts Needed:

Rear
Rotors, calipers, pads, and lines: 1989-1993 Isuzu amigo, 1988-1991 Isuzu Trooper, 1988-1995 Isuzu Pickup

Instructions:

Rear:
1. Remove Wheels
2. Remove drums
3. Remove parking brake cables
4. Remove brake lines from wheel cylinders
5. Remove 4 nuts behind backing plate assembly
6. Remove axle assembly (be sure to keep track of preload shims)
7. Remove the 4 studs (be sure no to damage the threads as you are going to re-use these)
8. The backing plate should be able to slide off the bearing housing to give you a better angle at your next step.
9. Remove backing plate. You have two ways of doing this. You can either have a machine shop remove the bearing assembly the “book” way or you can cut the backing plate off. If you choose the later be sure to protect the bearing assembly from the metal shavings you will create during the procedure.
10. Install the studs back in the bearing housing
11. Install axle back into axle tube with bearing spacer shims
12. Place caliper mounting bracket on the back side of the axle tube with the caliper position toward the rear of the vehicle and replace nuts removed in step 5
13. Slide rotor over axle
14. Install caliper mounting bracket using supplied spacers
15. Install calipers and pads
16. Install Isuzu rubber brake lines with banjo bolts and connect other end to existing hard lines

These come with the caliper mounting hardware, and they are painted. The set sells for $150 shipped in the US.

The stock e-brake cable will have to be lengthened, but these calipers do have a built in e-brake lever.

These will work on all H190 axles, been making these for Datsuns for years, and have just figured out what it will take for them to work on the hardbodies, just had to lengthen the spacers.

I will be working on a vented dual piston setup for the rear soon.

Does this space out the rear wheels??

RedAggie03
08-04-2011, 05:23 PM
Nice! I am concerned about the "extend the e-brake cable" part though. How would you do that? Does that require a custom cable?

^^^^ oh that's a good question too Pugz. It would be uber pimp if it brought the rear wheels IN just a touch.

beebani
08-04-2011, 05:30 PM
The wheels will virtually be in the same location as the drum is the same thickness as the rotor hat.

The ebrake cable extension is necessary on the Datsuns, but not 100% sure on the 720/hardbody. It is a simple fix though, some cable and clamps or crimp fittings from any hardware store will do the trick. I will post some pics of the upgrade.

I just did a little research, and it looks like the frontiers used all the same rear brake parts as the hb up through 2003, '04-'05 is when they went with discs in the rear.

4DRZ
08-07-2011, 03:10 PM
My delima is which is the better route....fit my truck with this system, which I like, or see if I can fit the rear disc from the 2004 model. I like this alot though

beebani
08-07-2011, 03:14 PM
the problem with the '04-up system is they changed the bolt pattern to the new 6 on 4.5 so you'd have to have the rotors drilled, and you'd still have to maybe make a bracket for the caliper, not sure if the Frontier bracket is removable or part of the axle?

4DRZ

This is looking like the best route then.

I have a set of downey disc brackets for yota 5lug axles they use a chevy caliper do you think if I sent them over you may want to copy the bracket this way you can change it up to use diffrent calipers like brembo or nissan or something along that line just really dont wanna install a stock chevy caliper with a wilwood front caliper

I'd totally be down to do that, but I don't have a yota axle layin around to mock up on, but I can figure something out. There's a j/y close by that has a couple yotas in it that I can get measurments off of.

The e-brake cable just has to be extended. I've got quite a few working on datsuns with a functioning e-brake.

I want to do a 5 lug (5x114.3) set up in the rear with disc... any way to do that?

What proportioning valve is needed to run rear discs on the HB? Especially if we go with your 300 front set up?

They are 1/4" plate, they should fit most any rear ends. The H233 I think only came in the 4wd trucks. The valve is not required.

Also, has anyone measured before and after the swap? I can stand narrowing the rear by about 1/2 inch but I can't have it any wider than it is now with the drums.

2Wheel-Lee

Converting to discs doesn't make the axle wheel face surface any wider. The thickness of the disc where it mounts to the axle is about the same as the drum.

With 2 sets of brackets and calipers plus longer axle bearing cage bolts and additional spacers do you think dual calipers are possible? Calipers would be 180° apart and second caliper for the other side maybe a hydraulic parking brake?

Not trying to look stupid but what holds the axle in the caliper?

The axle mounts to the axle housing, and the caliper mounts to the bracket which mounts to the housing

If you convert rear brakes to disc brakes, how does e-brake play out?

Hey beebani, are you still making these now? If so is there a link to your ebay? And have you ever made a set that works with aftermarket calipers say baer or Wilwood?

Beebani, I'm new to Nissans so not sure if my 1984 Sunrader based on a 720 Nissan Truck will fit something like this. The Sunrader has a 1 ton dually setup in the rear and I wanted to see if there was a rear disc conversion like this kit available for it. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
