ok, the story is, the top of my gas tank leaks when i fill it past half but i can't find a gas tank for it anywhere.

the question is, is the gas tank one of the interchangeable parts that work for all years? could i take a tank from a '97 HB and put it in my '87?

need help quick! thanks in advance

from all the trucks that i have messed with at the pick ur part, they all look the same, if its from a fuel injected truck it should work, with fuel pump and everything.

If you can find where its leaking from & depending on how big the hole/leak is you can repair it using JB weld FAST dry [5 minutes]. I repaired the tank on my 521 using that stuff..applied 2 coats & it held perfectly. Clean the area good 1st with a cleaning solvent [laq. thinner] before applying.

I'd also like to know a good place to pic up a new aftermarket fuel tank. I'm sure the dealer can get it but afraid to know the price. I've checked a few parts sites I know of and they don't carry them.

the leak is at the top of the tank where the pump goes in. i'm pretty sure the gasket around the top of the tank is gone, but when i went to tighten the bolts a bit, cause they were loose, i snapped the head off 2, so i stopped. i thought about using JB weld, or silicone cocking, or maybe even the stuff that comes in the gas tank repair kits at canadian tire(same as your autozone, pepboys, etc.).

if the seal is gone, can you use some gasket sealer stuff, squirt it under neath, then do up the bolts????

obviously make sure the stuff is compatible with fuel??

maybe yes no>?just an idea?

if all hardbody tanks are the same, are the sender's the same. could i just take the sender and pump out of mine and bolt it onto a different tank?

there all small differences between the different years on the hb tanks but everything is still interchangeable. I'm on my 3rd tank all from different years. The first got a hole in it when I was still static. The second was a salvage yard tank...it got rusted all up. The other I got not much better but cleaned up the best I could, it has dents and drag marks but can't complain a friend helped me out in a pinch. Still though I have looked I can find 720 tanks but not d-21. Anyone with info would help greatly....as for the large o ring seal on the top of the tank check your parts store if not go to the dealership...I bought one before but it's been a while so not sure where I ended up getting it.
