SKIP TO THE BOTTOM PART IN BOLD IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ EVERYTHING.

Hey guys. Seems like I'm having problem after problem with this truck.

First, I couldn't remove the old outer tie rods from the spindles when I installed lowering spindles. I just left on the old spindles and purchased a few different sets from Autozone, Napa, Kragen, etc. Seemed like none were the right ones and I even stripped the threads on the original adjusting sleeves trying to fit those in there. I then purchased sleeves and tie rod ends for a Hardbody, had the truck aligned, and almost instantly developed loose steering problems.

Turns out that my Steering Gearbox messed up somehow and needed to be adjusted. While "Loosening" the steering box adjustment nut, I stripped the thread on it not knowing that it's reverse threaded. I purchased a used steering box with low miles locally along with stock outer tie rod ends. I finally finished installing everything today. It took about 3-4 days On and off to install the gear box, tie rod ends, sleeves, and adjust them while keeping the steering wheel straight. Now I just need to have it realigned.

While filling the power steering reservoir someone is supposed to move the steering wheel from side to side to bleed the air out. When I was finally done and everything was tightened, I took it for a drive and noticed the Air bag light Blinking. I tried resetting it by turning the key on and off with the instructions, but it didn't work. In diagnostic mode it's giving me 2 blinks (Drivers Air Bag). I'm guessing that something was disconnected when moving the steering wheel side to side repeatedly.

Does anyone know where the driver side air bag connector is and how I can get to it? Do I need to remove the steering wheel?

Thanks

Connector is under the airbag. You'll need some torx bits to get it off. There should be an access port on each side of the wheel.

All airbag wires will be wrapped in yellow loom

Disconnect the negative battery terminal before removing anything.

and be careful not to turn your wheel when the airbag is off. there is a clockspring that can break. (if it isnt already broken)

Alright, I took off the air bag this afternoon and the connector is on there just fine. This evening as I was driving home from work I noticed that the Cruise Control, Horn, and Blue light for the Gear Indicator didn't work. I'm guessing I'm not getting any power to the air bag thus causing the air bag light to flash.

I checked all the fuses under the steering column and under the hood on the passenger side. Are there any more fuses? Anyone have any other ideas of what to look for?

Thanks

Not sure but I think there is an airbag module, somebody will need to confirm this.
Also there are service manuals for newer hbs with airbags might want to check that out

you broke your clock spring, I can promise you that. Somehow when you had the steering shaft disconnected the wheel got turned too many times. You will need to pull the steering wheel off to get to it.

Yep. I've been reading about that and they're expensive. I'm hoping that it's a simple fix (broken wire) or something like that. I plan on removing the steering wheel tomorrow to have a look.

you won't be able to see the broken connection

I know this is not what you wanna hear, But take it to your local nissan dealer and at least get the air bag code read. at least then you will know what it is exactly you need . Or just anybody with the capability to read airbag codes.

This is actually the type of car that you can get the codes from the blinking Air Bag light. It's giving me a code 2 which is "Drivers Air Bag".

then your down to 2 choices, air bag module, or clock spring. clock spring being the more likely choice. but there is still a chance its the actual bag

I thought I posted my findings but it looks like I forgot. I took off the clock spring yesterday and the connectors were torn off. I cut the ribbon cable, stripped it, and connected it back. I tried it out and only got power to the cruise control.

I went out and bought conductive adhesive glue today and I'm currently trying to make that work. I'll update later.

Well, It didn't work. Even the cruise control stopped working. I just gave up and put everything back together without the Clock Spring. I guess I'll buy one eventually.

Thanks for the help again guys.
