I am thinking about BDing my 98 fronty. Not my 1st BD but think some tips are always helpfull. I am in the process of doing inner fenders for the front and figured I might as well keep going while I have the truck apart.
Right now the only problems I am seeing is the AC hoses hitting the engine and having to rebend some brake lines on the passenger side. And getting the AC unit to fit after the BD. Also looks like I will have to move my clutch into the cowl area to get it to clear.
I haven't pulled the AC unit complety out yet so I dont know what exactly Im getting into there. But I did notice some type of computer box under it.
I am only going to the pinch welds on this one so it wont be to bad. My last one was a 95 HB BDed 3 1/2"s. Which seems like it was 100% easier than the frontys now.
Anyway any pics or tips would be appreciated!!!
And Im new to the thread, so HI to everyone! Sup Pugz!
chris.... u might as well wait..... u know im bout to own your truck. lmao.
go for it. since your just traditionaling it its gonna be just like your old hb. just extend lines and hoses as needed

Ya its about the same just a few differences. Just would like to see what some others did to work around the issues.
Also would like some pics of the front frame drop. I think I am going to drop the frame down instead of the body to keep my stock radiator and everything this time around.
I saw a pic on here some where with the clip cut off, but now I cant find it. Looks like not many people on here have BDed their frontys and took pics.

Anyone got any tips on saving your heater and wipers with a 3.5+ BD? My clutch is right in the way of my driver side wiper now. And the heater/ac will be hitting the trany hump where you dont really want to cut the hump.

no more wipers unless you only use one. need to put heater box back in to find out what your talking about. looks like you work pretty fast.

I just have the truck stripped and kind of know what to look out for. But I did notice it looks like the heater core is going to hit the trany tunnel. And if you notch the tunnel you will loose the room the get your trany out. So only conclusion I see is taking out the heater core and notching the heater box so far. But Im not that far yet.
I just got the clutch boxed in the cowl and need to seal it up so far. Still deciding if Im going to go more than 3.5"s. Looks like 3.5 will only lay rocker with the pinch out of the way. On my HB 3.5 was 1/2 the rocker. I would like to get the same look but looks like Im going to loose alot if I do. Already kind of pissed about the wiper, but its a show truck so whatever! Heater Im not to worried about since I live in TX, but I cant live without a/c, lol!
Just lay flat rocker..... 3" on a frontier. U dont need more than that damnit lol

All this trouble with relocating and modifying stuff just makes you wanna stock floor it.... At least it did for me....then decided on the full frame...then went from 20s and 22s to all 22s to 22s and 24s....with cantilever and new control arms... shit gets out of hand quick!

clutch master box looks good. started to relocate mine yesterday and ran into the wiper problem as well. cant believe you cut the entire front end off.

Even stock floor you would have to move the clutch. I see headaches either way really.
But yes it gets out of hand! Like a drug that sucks you in.

Thanks, ran into a little problem and moved it to close toward the brake at first, so I had to move it back over to get it to clear.
I like to have as much room as possible to Z the frame. No biggy. Also need clean around the engine while its opened up.

have you already cut the floor or do you start in the front and work your way back?

I haven't cut the floor yet. Im going to cut my rockers, then the cab, then the front clip. Then I need to bag the back and finish the back end up. Once I get the rockers how I want them I can get a better measurement on how much I need to BD it.

Is it because of the slave cylinder that you lose the wiper or what? I need to keep mine for state inspection

the box for the clutch master cylinder and pedal assembly when you body drop the cab will be right where the rod to the driver side wiper will be. i was looking at mine and if you made a new cowl, you could relocate the driver side wiper and shorten the drive rod. i live in arizona and it really doesnt rain alot here so rain x is what ill be using.

Ink, when you BD yours, what guage or size of metal did you use for the floor?
inkjunky

18 guage. anything thicker and it gets harder to work with.

Has anyone mounted the clutch cylinder inside the firewall instead of moving it up? I wondered if this would help save the wiper. I live in Virginia and we hafta have wipers to pass state inspection.

If you move the clutch master to the inside of the fire wall you can use a hoda civic master the brake fluid is remote mounted so you could have fill under the hood making it easy to check. Thats what im planning on using when I get to that point.

There are ways of getting around it. But they are a little more complicated. I have to have mine for inspection also, but its not my daily and there are always ways around it.

I would like to see any pics like this if anyone can dig some up. Also is everyone running an adjustable link on the back of the lower control arm? I would like to see any pics anyone has for that as well.
