Whats the difference and/or advantages/disadvantages. Reading how some do one or another. What does everybody else think? Any ideas. Never really heard of channeling a truck instead of the trad/stockfloor bdrop.

That's exactally it. Instead of cutting out the whole floorpan and moving it up, you cut only around the tranny, framerails, and anything else that gets in your way of dropping the cab down further. When you tub out the floorpan for clearance over the rails and such.. it looks like channels in the floor.
Channeling is/was extremely popular for the old hot rod guys...moreso than in the minitruckin world. There is still a ton of work in channeling a cab, and many would rather raise the entire floor (in a trad bd) than have those humps right in the middle of the floorpan in front of the seats.
Some use both terms and deem them to mean the same thing, but I have always thought of them as two different things alltogether...just my stance on it anyway.
