I make my own parts for my 4x4 rig. I enjoy working on anything really, so if someone came in with an offroad rig I would have no problem working on it. Its nice for a change of pace every now and then.

Here are some massive spikes that I just turned for a guy, they are close to the size of a pop can!

The bottom is clearanced and threaded so it can screw on the remaining thread and cover the nut, lock washer, and flat washer.
http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=967&pictureid=7737

And here they are finished on my desk.

Here is the newest project rolling into the shop. Its belongs to one of the owners of MasterShift, a local preformance transmission shop. I'm building a custom aluminum fuel cell for it to replace the un-coated 8 gallon steel one thats in it now. It also doesn't have a vent tube in it so it takes forever to fill it up with gas!

So I dusted off the English Wheel and Bead Roller for some tin work on the Panel:

Out with the old...
http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1076&pictureid=8259

I'll have to make a new panel to fill in the hole...
http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1076&pictureid=8260

Starting fresh...
http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1076&pictureid=8261

The edge is flanged and the beads are laid out...
http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1076&pictureid=8262

The beads are rolled, now back to the English wheel to smooth out the panel so it doesn't look like a potatoe chip...
http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1076&pictureid=8263

And with a flat panel I added the holes and cleco'ed it to the body...

Working on a couple of aluminum fuel cells:

This one is an extra, 24"x12"x10" (12.5 gallons) with internal baffles. I can add any holes or bungs that you may need. Its all sheared up and just needs to be welded together.
http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1079&pictureid=8296

This one is for the MasterShift Panel, its 20.8 gallons:

My friends 1964 Buick Skylark. I helped him bag it a few years ago as he wanted to learn to do some things and save some cash. I built all the cups and trimmed a spring pocket out for him so he had an idea what to do. He did a good job trimming the other spring pocket and bolting everything up. He dropped it off yesterday to have some front shocks installed so I took care of it.

Custom rear cups:

Shock mount tacked in and test fit:
http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1155&pictureid=8598

All welded in and painted:
http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1155&pictureid=8599

After the mount cooled and the paint dried I installed the new Edelbrock Classis IAS shocks:

Everything looks really good man, but do you not need straps on that fuel cell??

Nope, that fuel cell cannot go anywhere. Its not like the pre-fab aluminum fuel cells from Summit or Jegs with the four tiny "L" tabs on each corner. Those will fail if not supported underneath. The plastic fuel cells have to be strapped because they don't have mounting tabs to secure them.

Yeah the torsions, sorry. Nice work on the Buick

I haven't ever had anyone ask for aftermarket arms that work with the torsion bars. So no, I haven't built anything like that but I don't see why it couldn't be done.

Just figured that tubular arms would flex less than the stamped ones... I guess I could reinforce the stocks ones, but then they'd be pretty heavy.

I also shorten rearends when needed.

This is a GM 10 bolt that I took 1" out of each side so the tires won't rub the bed sides when laid out:

how much for 1.5" or 1.75" steel ball threaded for a 89 hb shifter powder coated maroon?

I'll have to check my ball turning attachment and see how big I can do. As for the thread size I believe its a female thread but i'm not sure what the size is.

My friend Nick added electric fans to his 1972 Pontiac GTO and he needed a way to hold the top of the radiator in since he wasn't using the stock fan shroud anymore. So here's what I came up with:

I layed out all the holes, drilled them, dimpled them, and bent it in the brake:

It depends on the balljoint cups. Some require more machine work than others.

Test fitting the wheels and tires and as I suspected I am going to have to stretch the wheel wells. This is fine because i'm going to increase the wheelbase at the same time. I'm going to have to clear more around the tire because it needs to go up about 1" more.

AWESOME! So about what hp on the wheels u expect? thats body work & all too?

UnusualFabrication
02-23-2012, 01:45 PM
The motor makes 600hp on the dyno with race gas. It'll lose a little horsepower through the powerglide, driveshaft, and rearend, but it'll still have over 500hp. The car is real light so the power to weight ratio is going to favor the power side. Completely done, i'm figuring this summer sometime. I'll be done with all the metal work (chassis, link, arms, cage, firewall, floor, fuel cell, etc.) this spring.

I would assume u got lowered built as well... So u won't need the strut rod cuz those lowers are triangulated... Which is a good thing cuz I don't know that u could lay out on a 22 without the that rod hitting the steering sector lol... If I'm wrong plz forgive and correct me Chris! Lol

UnusualFabrication
04-24-2012, 05:45 AM
The lowers come with a new machined cross shaft so you don't have to use the factory strut rods. You will remove the LCA bushing and the new shaft will slide in from the rear and weld into the existing cross member. Then the new lower arm bolts to the cross shaft. You will want to run a small gusset from the cross shaft to the frame just to add a little rigidity to it. Then you will have to drill the hole/holes you need to mount the airbags to the lower arms.
