Sorry, I couldn't possibly know any less than I do about Nissan trucks, but I just got a 2000 Frontier "Desert Runner Edition".

The seller said that that designation means, in part, that it has some sort of "posi-traction rear end".

Can someone tell me if that or correct or close or off by a mile?

Thanks...

I have a 2000 2wd Crew Cab, which I believe is the same frame as the Desert Runner and 4wd - a frame and body lift. Nissan calls theirs rear end a 'limited slip differential' (or LSD, as Irongrave stated), which was an option for that year.

Some of the Desert runners did come with a viscous style limited slip rear differential, but after some research, i found out that these aren't very effective as a 'posi' style rear end... it takes a lot of ft/lbs before it will spin both tires. better than an open diff, but not a the greatest.

desert runner uses the 4wd frame and hardware, but in a 2wd version. you should have the strong axle, the h233b, and most (if not all) were lsd. the dead giveaway would be the bright orange sticker they put on the differential.

you got a good solid truck, but its not one thats easy to lower.

Hey, first of all congratulation for your new truck. I hope you are having a great time with it. It is indeed a good buy. Yup, I have heard about this from my aunt who has a 2000 Frontier. No need to get confused with that caption that they use. As everyone said above, it is just that it has got 4X4 and 2wd truck.
