The detailer in me is screaming "Nooooooooooo! Don't let the dealer put even more swirls in that nice black, paint", but then I remembered that's not what ya'll are about on here. :D

Well it says they wash it, I don't know what that exactly entails. I don't know a lot about detailing but may get into it with this being black. I'd like to get some black chrome wheels at some point too I think.mainly I'm just f'n excited to know for sure I can start lookin at tilt back trailers haha

Should be very effective as a tow truck!

If you have any detailing type questions, let me know. I'll pass along my knowledge (or do some research), point you to the OTC stuff you need or to some online stores if you really want to spend some $.

You are gonna hate black after you get it. Sure they look great after cleaninf and what not. You will spend every waking moment trying to keep that bitch clean. I speak from experience.

I WILL NEVER OWN A BLACK VEHICLE AGAIN. NEVER!!!!!

HAve fun with the new truck and all.

I'm looking into getting at least some hand use stuff, i'm not confident enough to put a buffer wheel on it haha. I would be interested in hearing what options I may have...

Also, does anyone know of any aftermarket companies that offer options for the T track systems in these new trucks??

I wasnt being sour. Just stating a fact you will grow tired of constantly cleaning it.

not a fact, just your opinion

i have had 2 black hardbodies and a black mustang, never got tired of cleaning any of them
took pride in the way they looked, stayed very clean

^OoOoOoOoOoh! I really like those new headlights. Did you dealer actually detail yours? I've taken both trucks a few times for freebies from my Nissan dealer and every time they claim it comes with a "free detail." The trucks have never been washed once. Lol. Hand waxing is better anyway, that's going to be a fun one to clean, black always looks good!

I don't think it was waxed honestly, it was definitely clean though! I'll have to get some wax and 3m tape and just go over the truck myself.

Are you wrapping it in 3M film?

GrantH
09-29-2010, 04:58 PM
no, but theres black plastics that can't be waxed.

sooner or later it may get a 3M wrap though, but I really wanted the black so I don't see that changing.

I would not recommend a buffer wheel, if it what I am thinking of. This sounds like a rotary polisher that most dealership detailer's use. These work well if you know what you are doing, but can easily burn through the clear coat if you are not careful. The best, and safest, tool to use is a Dual Action Random Orbital polisher. The most popular is a Porter Cable, commonly referred to as a PC, model 7424XP. Other reasonably priced options are Meguiar's G110v2 and Griot's Garage 6" polisher. These go for about $130 by themselves, but you also need foam polishing pads (different densities) and compounds and polishes, so it takes about $300 to get you started new.

Sorry, for the long answer, but it's the same type question that I answer weekly on another forum.

Lol! Nice information! I think I'll stick to elbow grease. Might be more difficult to see on white. Don't want to end up with a flat, dull white truck.

Well it now has 300+ miles on it, we took took it to the coast as well. That tank was a half tank highway and quarter tank city roughly and I go ~18 mpg. Far better than my previous 14.5 in the f150.
