I've searched and read the other headlight threads and they aren't exactly the same as my problems, so I figured I'd ask for some help.
I have a '98 Frontier and my low-beams in both lamps just randomly shut off today and wouldn't turn back on. I checked the fuses and they're all good. I managed to drive about 7/8 of the way back home (about 20 miles) on my brights which were working fine. Then suddenly they started to flicker and they shut off and wouldn't come back on either.
I have the standard cluster issues associated with the early Frontiers. Temp. gauge is pinned to the right and speedo reads a constant 85mph. Fuel gauge pins to the right periodically and a tap on the dash fixes it.
Now, what has started to goof up lately is the battery light in the cluster and the e-brake light. Sometimes they will flicker or just stay on. I figured this was just happening because of the other cluster problems. But, now I'm thinking it's something more serious?
The battery and e-brake lights started to flicker on the way home right when the hi-beams shut off for good.
I checked the bulbs, and both are burnt out now. The bulbs were Silverstars and only about four months old. And seeing as both the high and low beams both burnt out on BOTH bulbs at the same time, makes me think it wasn't a problem with the bulbs them selves.
I don't have a ton of money or time to fix this issue. I work at night, so just ignoring the problem isn't an option. I know damn near nothing about electrical work, so I'm totally lost when it comes to this stuff.
Where should I check first? What would be a probable cause here? Will just buying new bulbs work?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my only vehicle and my only way to work and back. I'd really like to avoid having to pay to have a shop look at the problem.
Thanks in advance...
