Hey guys, just got my 2000 frontier bagged and now the abs light is on. I do have 2" drop spindles now so I think that might have something to do with it. Just wondering how I can get the light to turn off. Thanks for all and any help.

Using drop spindles disables ABS.
Just pull apart the cluster and remove the bulb.

I was under the impression that the only ABS sensor is on the rear end??? At least that's how mine is. My ABS light came on and I just pulled the whole ecu out. Been planning on doing away with the valve and all, but just haven't gotten around to it b/c I'm too lazy to plumb the new lines. Anyways, as far as I know, there aren't any wheel speed sensors on the front wheels. If you don't wanna go that route, have someone pull the code and let us know what it is. Usually ABS code definitions are pretty precise about what the problem is.

Yeah. As far as I can tell, there's one on the transmission and one on the rear diff, and the ABS ECU judges the difference between the two to tell if the rear wheels are locking up and releases and applies pressure to the rear brakes to maintain traction. But, having the code would probably help of a lot.

Thanks for all the input guys.

The ABS sensors are on the front. They have nothing to do with the speed sensor. With the drop spindles there is not a spot for the sensor, so i bet they are just unpluged.

I know this is old, but just to keep the info correct should anyone else see this, yes there would be wheel speed sensors on the front if you had 4-wheel ABS, but if his 2000 is like mine, it's only the rear wheels that are controlled by the ABS. Doesn't have speed sensors in the front and never did.

correct. they added 4 wheel abs in 2001 if i recall. thats why belltech only lists the frontier drop spindle(part# 2010) up to 2000. the spindle will still work fine all the way up to an 04 but the provisions for the front ABS are not there. so by adding the drop spindle you lose the ABS but the brakes still work correctly.

I thought it was later than that, but I guess I was wrong. Either way I was about 99 percent sure it's only 2-wheel on 00's. Good to know though.

I know this thread is old, but what exactly needs to be done to "Remove ABS" when installing drop spindles? All I find are posts saying that it needs to be removed but none explain how to do it.

Thanks

technically when you remove the stock spindle you have removed the ABS. this only applies to later first gen frontiers. the abs system has a sensor in the spindle that reads wheel speed. when you change to the aftermarket spindles, the sensor is not there so the truck reads this as an error. the brakes then work as they would without the ABS function. just zip tie up the wires for the sensor and your good to go.
