Rough install guide for installing coilovers from PRG products into an 05+

Tools:
good work gloves
PB blaster or other penetration oil
good 1/2 in breaker bar
sockets 10mm (1/4) 14mm, 17mm and 19mm (1/2)
box end wrenches 14mm and 19mm
jack stands
small jack
and some others I might have missed

Starting

1. get the truck up on jack stands and remove the front wheels
2. spray all the bolts and nuts with PB blaster
3. use the 17mm socket to undo the sway bar end links and rotate the sway bar out of the way

4. use the 10mm socket to remove a plate that holds some wires (not sure what ones)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/Irongrave666/DSCN0870.jpg
remove the screw then you can just let the plat hang.
5. use 19mm socket and wrench to undo the lower bolt that hold the coil over in. don’t take out the bolt though.
6. jack up the lower control arm and use a 14mm socket and 14mm wrench to undo the 3 nuts on the coil bucket then lower the jack.
7. remove the bolt holding the shock to the lower control arm. then add a little bit of force to the rotor and the coil over should drop out. A little twisting and it should come right out.
8. put new PRG radflo coilover in. again apply force to the brake rotor and slide the new coilover in. Helps having 2 hands here. with force applied insert the bolt though the spacers and the shock and put the nut on (do not tighten yet)
9. put the new bolt and nuts on the coil bucket and tighten down using 14mm wrenches and socket (helps having 2) though you might be able to use a socket for 2 of them (the reason for moving the bracket in step 4)

10. tighten down the bolt on the lower control arm.
11. reinstall the wire bracket and sway bar.
12. put on tires and set on ground
13 (optional) adjust coil overs with spanner wrench lower or higher depending on what you want (i need to lower mine a little bit)
Finished for now need to lower it a little bit.

i should have new ones some time in the next two weeks that should get the front down a little more (the ones in the photo ended up being wrong and i got another set that lowered the front and the ones that are coming are a little stiffer and shorter to work better with the drop)

Im contemplating buying a new 09 Frontier and am watching these threads to learn if I can lower it a bit. I a bit handicapped and need to lower it 2-3 inches to get in and out better.

What do you do with the rear to lower it? Apparently it has leaf springs. I can see the new coilovers being a boon to this process but I dont want to get into the cutting up of a new vehicle thing.

How is it being done on the new versions without tearing them up to much.

Can't do it without drastically modifying, I posted on your thread over at club frontier. Check out my posts in the D40 section. If you just need to get in it easier your best bet would prob. be drop tire size and get some step bars. You can get a speedo calibrator from Hypertech to correct your odometer and speedo from the smaller wheels.

That is what I was afraid of, the tearing it up to get to where I need to go.

Im really curious why they continue to make these supposedly "compact" little trucks so damn big.

They already have a BIG model. They need to leave these alone and keep them shorter to the ground. 10 inch ground clearance is ridiculous for some of these "small" truck such as the Colorado, Tundra, Frontier etc.

We still need what I call an urban pickup for hauling little things and still get a 4 door for travel or family needs that people can hop in and out of without climbing or steps. I grew up on a farm and the pickups back in the 50's and 60's were not this high and still managed to be a farm truck. Only the big full time 4 wheelers were this high.

Need something other than all the LIFT kits and 35 inch tire crowd.

But with new political admin here in the US I would be surprised to see bumper height legislation installed. They have wanted to get this for some time. Make all vehicles fall within a certain range to keep wrecks from Riding up over other vehicles.

Thanks again for your input.

sorry but with these trucks because they are based off the titan frame were are a big truck. they require a little cutting and hacking to get lower as there are no quick bolt in options for these trucks.

as for that bumper height that could be bad for us to make them need to be a height off the ground 2.

i thought bumper height was pretty much a state-to-state deal... anyway i'm with you on the new trucks being too big. although i gotta say, my 01 frontier is too damn small to make a long road trip comfortably.. and the concepts of the new "mini" trucks are all so hideously ugly....
