OK I'm posting this here because it has to do with doing a dash swap. OK so I ordered a speed sensor from Auto Zone and I was under the impression that it came with the different gears (17,18,19 tooth from what I've read) for the different size wheels. Well it did not come with any gears. Apparently the gears cannot be ordered at Auto Zone so I called the dealer and they said they can get them for around $35. I pulled the old speedo cable off yesterday and tried to remove the gear from it but that was a no go. Is there some special way that it can be removed or am I wasting my time trying?

The new sensor comes with a plug on it with 2 green wires. I'm just wondering which on these wires connect to the red and white wire at the cluster or if it matters. Here are pics.

I'm wondering if they were supposed to be in the bag. It doesn't say whether or not it comes with the gears when you order it. (I work at Auto Zone)

in the second pic there is a pin just down by the gear that you remove. remove the pin and pull out the gear with the shaft and then you can get the gear off the old shaft and put it on the new shaft and put that in the new sensor.

I can't get the shaft out of the old speedo sensor. There doesn't seem to be a pin in the old sensor and the shaft won't come out. Besides I pretty much destroyed the old gear now trying to get it out/off. So I guess I'll be ordering the one from the dealer.

BTW I found the OEM part #'s for the the different gears:

32743-56G17 - 17 tooth gear

32743-56G18 - 18 tooth gear

32743-56G19 - 19 tooth gear

I found them on courtesyparts.com.

I'm gonna see if the dealership will match the price.

What abut the wiring? Does it matter? I'm sure it does.

I bought a 94 Nissan Pathfinder speed sensor, from either AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts. I believe that it came with all 3 gears so I just matched the teeth number up and installed it.

I cut the plug since it wasn't useful and had the wires soldered to a cable attached to the speedometer plug. It's been a while since I did my dash swap but perhaps you could use a multimeter to determine which lead goes where.

Me and ice just did mine, I dont think it matters, its just a hall effect sensor so It should work either way

It doesn't matter which green wire goes to the red or white.

I just sent him a pm. Judging from his site and everywhere else I've looked the price is right at $28 shipped but I'll wait for the PM back to see. :)

Thanks Oldschool and Ronnie.

how did you get the old on out of the transmission? i tried to do this back in july and couldnt get the old sensor out, so i said f-it and have been driving since then without a working speedo

like i unbolted the one bolt, then unscrewed the cable stay thing, but i could not get it to come out.

sometimes you have to get a pair of pliers on it and twist it back and foward a few times to free it up. It has a o-ring that will get hard over time and this makes removal a pain sometimes!

Shit mine came right out. Just took the 10mm bolt out and tugged on it a little and it popped out.

So wait you're telling me that something on this whole ordeal went easy for me? I don't believe it. lol

A little late I know, but the one I got from the dealer came with the gear attached. Not pricey either.

Yeah they are pretty cheap for the factory sensors. 30.00 I think, but since he already had a sensor just got him the factory gear. You can get them together or individually from Nissan.

When I called about the sensor it was $140ish. I should have just contacted you from the jump.

Did you ever get a chance to send that gear out?

yep

the post office wouldn't take it in a envelope so I sent it fedex.

OK I got the gear today and I think I have yet another problem. What's new right. It looks like there is supposed to be some sort of snap ring that should hold the gear onto the sensor. It's really loose and I'm sure that's not right. Problem is I don't have one. Has anyone else seen this?

There is a c-clip that should have come on the new sensor. I dont keep them but I can get one tommorrow and mail it. No charge. If you need it sooner you can get them at any hardware store just take the sensor with you to get the right size.

Well I work at Auto Zone so I think I can find something there. After I posted I thought about it. If you want to send it I would greatly appreciate it but I think I may be able to find one at work tomorrow.

Oh and BTW you rock. Great customer service. That's hard to find anywhere these days.
