View Full Version : Titan 18 Wheels on 4x4 Pickup

So, I wasn't having much luck finding any guidance on Titan rims for the 4x4 Nissan's on the "old" forum. I knew I'd have to have mine bored all the way through versus halfway (done for fitment on the 2x4's). So I did! Check it out:

Initially, the wheels weren't as cleanly machined. Where you see "U" shaped slots there was paper thin metal remaining that needed to be punched out and gently sanded smooth (the wife and I did this). I would have put the tires on today, but the tire install dude didn't like the looks of machined wheels... what a dick. Wheels will be wrapped in 255/55 tires. I was kind of worried the wheel would be significantly weakend by machining all the way through, but the stock rims are even thinner. They are steel... which, if I can remember correctly would have the tendency to flex under the harshest of loads, but the Titan wheels are 2 1/2 times as thick behindthe center bore... anyone have input here?

The tire guys are held to liability issues. even if you sighned a waiver to not hold them resposible it is nearly impossible to get the person or people who are injured and or killed in the event something did happen to sighn the same waiver.

The dude was rambling on about that golden liability issue.

I'm on the hunt for a mom and pop shop that doesn't give a fuck. Truth be told, I think the dude was spooked right off the bat by the raw machine job. Hopefully this cleaned up look doesn't throw any more flags.

I didn't want to seem like a sell-out, so I scrapped together some night pictures of the rims w/tires installed on the pick up. I had to take them at night because I didn't get home in time from work... and I won't be able to take day pictures until Thursday because I'm graduating from this institution place. SO! Enjoy!

Oh, I forget to mention... shitty thing happened during the install. The tire dude broke off one of my lugs on the driver's side rear hub. Man, I was so pissed... my wife was at the place and he told her to just go somewhere and have it fixed. I was like, WHAT!? She ended up calling him, saying he'd be paying the bill, and then things quickly changed to him saying that he'd fix it. :thumb: Wife says the truck is a lot smoother now and a lot less "rugged." I think she means bouncy...

I'd find some of the chrome center caps off of a old mazda for the rear, but all in all it looks good

Megh, I was taking a look at the Titan caps that came with and I wanted to try my hand at fiberglassing something up, would be fun. I'm trying to think of how I'd do it in my head... there's no lip on the inside for anything to catch on, it's just straight through.

alot of wheels have centercaps that are tapered.....like a cup so the end with the emblem is small but the other end, the open end, is larger. you just push them through the back and they wedge into place. you can probably get some off ebay that will work.

Not really much a difference from the night pictures. Helped me realize I have a light out, which is terrific. Oy vey, I just changed the brake light a few days ago.

there is one for the standard bore of 4" and 1/2" deep

if you plan to run them on a 4x4 youll need the 4" bore all the way through. it would require a few extra steps if you wanted to use the router method.

id still recommend a trip to the machine shop tho.

Wouldnt you only have to bore the fronts to accommodate the lockout hubs and do the rears regular way so you can use the center caps? From what I have seen, this can be done.

since we're on the subject. wats the difference, if there is, between armada rims and titan rims. no a guy sellin a set of each and each set looks identical. both 6 spoke gun metal powder coat but he' sellin the so called "titan" rims $100 more.

jus wonderin if there is a difference because i never thought there was.

true, but then you cant rotate tires.

i hate to jack this thread, but i have a 2wd hb.. thinking about running the z71 wheels on it. someone said they don't have to be bored if i grind the tabs, but idk what tabs? an info guys?

idropdit

and someone else said they ran the same wheels without boring.. is that possible as well?

They are talking about machining down the front hubs instead of center boring the wheels.

I'd rather do the wheels. I had mine done at a machine shop...less than 100 bucks for all 4.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but someone said something about this site and I remembered I had made this thread. Here's the final look of my truck before I sold her:

http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/7951/img2866e.jpg

I ended up getting rid of all the chrome on the front and putting a Toyota bumper on her. Updated the grill as well. I sold her because she used too much gas (17/18 mpg combined), didn't need the 4x4 anymore, and I bought a newer more gas efficient truck. (a 2k2 toyota tacoma) She was a good truck, the 4x4 saved my ass in Washington state during a really bad winter for the area.
