View Full Version : Project: Military 720

This my buddies 1984 720http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/l_e82cad6ae7324b218245f0c3415deaf4.jpg He had an s-10 last year but wanted somethin better for his next build, a true MINI truck. In the past he and other friends of ours would buy our links and brakets from suicide doors because that's where you get the shit you need to bag your truck. Well this year it had to be done on a budget, and we wanted to have as much to do with our trucks as possible, and desighned, blue printed, and fabricated every peice that we could. I have a full size chevy so you won't see that buhere is the 720 build. This is the cross member and tabs mocked up that he desighned http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0811.jpgand built.

These are the bag on bar upper brackets. http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0829.jpg
The bottom of the bag will actually be bolted directly to the lower bar.
These are the upper and lower brackets for the front. http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0830.jpg http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0832.jpg We have acess to a laser so we just blue print the parts we need and have them made to our specs. Now for the most important part in baggin a truck, the link bars. http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0826.jpg http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0828.jpg The link bars are 2x2 square 3/16 wall tube with 2 inch o.d. 1.5 i.d. weld in bushings. The adjustable is the same as the weld ins except that he notched the head of a 1 1/8 12 tpi bolt and welded it to the bung and we had a machine shop tap a 1.5x1.5 inch solid steel block that was used as a bung to insert into the end of the square tube and weld it in for the adjustable end. Before anyone says it's over done I'll speak for my friend when I say "Thank you, I appreciate the compliment" Better safe than sorry.

For 84 nissan the body was pretty solid but the frame was un touched. It was a florida truck luckily. http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0807.jpg
So far so good, got it linked and notched. He still has the brackets and bags for the rear to do, then on to the front. Stay tuned for more pictures and more of the build. But for now here is how she lays.

05-25-2010, 07:57 PM
looks good. you get those link brackets on your crossmember from balistic fab?

05-25-2010, 08:36 PM
Thanks for the props fellas. The brackets that were used on the cross member were actually laser through my buddies employer, but we copied off of tabs that we got from somewhere else. We tried to laser most of the shit we've used, we get it faster than 8-10 weeks like other places I won't mention, oh yeah and it's cheaper.

http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0857.jpgAlright another weekend and more progress. Like we promised, more pics.
Here is the front all welded up.
With the limited room left he had no other choice to run bag on bar, but it worked out best in the long run.
http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0862.jpg We cut out the rear cross member to get a little more clearance and here is the final product.
This is how shttp://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/2lnblktop/101_0843.jpghe sat before.

those front upper mounts gonna be strong enough?

05-31-2010, 01:55 PM
I'd throw in some gussets up top.

05-31-2010, 02:05 PM
he has guessets on it there just down instead of up

05-31-2010, 02:09 PM
looking good

05-31-2010, 04:05 PM
yeah i was kinda curious bout that to i actualy fit dominator 2500 up front very little room ha habut it seems to clear ok il prob add somethenjust cant add alot cause uca is about 1/4 inch from upper bag bracket when im all the way up n front so they would have to be short gussets i had to angle lower gussets cause when laid out the bag would hit gusset
