OK, we couldnt use the upper bag mounts , wasnt to my liking... it was too long and too wide....
so i modified them! ... lol....
i recycled the metal...
on the left, is the old bag brackets after i cut them up to modify ... lol..
on the right is the bag brackets i made from the OLD bag brackets.....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/doctor_iceman/TruckMods%20nissan/SDC10581.jpg

closer look of my bag brackets... did i do right? haha
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/doctor_iceman/TruckMods%20nissan/SDC10582.jpg

we couldnt use the upper control arms he brought....
so i talked Justin into buying some Cando's arms..... it wasnt hard to talk him into it...
so heres the arms mounted up and lowers welded.... now i need to weld in the bag brackets..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/doctor_iceman/TruckMods%20nissan/SDC10579.jpg

i got the back done (somewhat , with little "modifying") but i forgot to take pics....

jimmy726
06-17-2010, 01:12 PM
with a little modifying like as in those bag brackets up there? Or as a few cuts here and there? Also what arms did he have at first shAIM????

pugz
06-17-2010, 01:38 PM

I saw the AIM uppers in person. Didn't like a few things.
1) didnt include any longer bolts for the upper ball joints to compensate for the thicker mounting flange.
2) no jam nut for the adjustable ends; used some weird looking clamp instead
3) even fully compressed, Mat said they were too long by (I think) almost 1 inch causing a lot of positive camber

Ice
07-06-2010, 02:30 AM
Yeah, Kmanual got it right about the upper arms.... i wasnt too impressed with them.... anyways..

heres some pics. some are old... but i forgot to include them first time around...

its plated man

I think he's refering to the open side of the notch in this pic. Ice had mentioned that he might make it look a bit better but really is'nt necessary since that metal is fairly beefy.

Ice

i have more pics.. but just need to upload them and take more .. LOL...
just a teaser....
started on the sheetmetal stuff....
so off with the handles....
Justin brought me some pre-fab filler plates...
i dont like them at all... this is why....
they used thick metal to make them (18-16 gauge) , your sheetmetal on your door is 22 gauge... you do not weld thicker metal on bodypanels with such a big thickness difference... you will run into alot of warpage, cause it takes more heat to Melt the thicker metal ... also , the bodyline on them were off ... and on top of that, they make it so you put the plate on top of the door .. i dont do that, i cut the metal out and butt-weld filler panels on ... why? so i can get a hammer and dolly out and stretch out the welds and take the warpage out ! more metal , less bondo ... dont believe me... stay tuned...
the pre-fab filler on left, the filler i made on the right(yes, this filler will cover the Key hole too, so i dont have to cut out 2 holes, i do 1 big hole.. lol)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/doctor_iceman/TruckMods%20nissan/SDC11266.jpg
i usually tig weld all my sheetmetal together.... but went with mig on this one due to the tig machine was tied up elsewhere in my shop...
you can see the back inside of the door ... yes, thats called PENETRATION.. maybe a little too much , but i was running my welder really hot, i dont stress about warping the metal..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/doctor_iceman/TruckMods%20nissan/SDC11277.jpg
welded up ... notice.. the whole door is not warped and paint all off of it... i only hammered around / on my welds..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/doctor_iceman/TruckMods%20nissan/SDC11278.jpg

little bit of stretching , planishing and dolly work.... still not done... but can you say "bondo need not to apply?"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/doctor_iceman/TruckMods%20nissan/SDC11272.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/doctor_iceman/TruckMods%20nissan/SDC11274.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/doctor_iceman/TruckMods%20nissan/SDC11279.jpg
still got little more sanding to do to finish off the weld seams... but you get the picture...

just a friendly reminder... Metal will out last bondo any day.... and little bit of hammer and dolly work , you can get that metal straighter and use less or no bondo ... and just us putty if needed or high build primer... it took me no more time to do this then what it would take applying bondo , sanding , then re-applying and so on ... i will sand it little more... then apply some putty to it , and sand most of it off , then primer ......
