most of you guys are slammin so i thought it might be nice to see some old school sittin high. This is my 84 4x4 I bought for a steal. Turns out i got robbed cuz most of it was more rust than anything else. But once the bug bites its hard to settle for anything else. I drove it for a year before i decided to get down to business. I've pulled the 350, trans, transfer case, axles and a few other odds and ends from an 83 k5 that was just as cancerous ( is that a word lol). Soon as I clear the shop(body/paint shop in franklin county, nc if anyone knows where that is) of customers i'll be diving in. Any tips or ideas are appreciated.
my truck, i'll have to dig up the photos that really show the rust later

the floor was completely rusted out along with the tailgate and it leaked like no 2morrow. the only good thing on it was the drivetrain. Forgot to mention the previous owner didn't tell me it had a salvage title. Three weeks later, surprise and i couldn't get up with the owner. Only paid 400 for it so I didnt expect much.

I still need to make a new mount for the brake booster, make new exhaust headers and a longer driveshaft.

I love to see someone doing SAS's
I shouldn't say this here, But I would have kept the K5 over the 720 -ducks head-
I have some 2 inch custom aluminum lift blocks from my K5 I had made if you need a body lift.
If you need any info, ask away my backround is lifted trucks.

I figured I'd just give you some info to get you started.
You should use the same factory K5 52 inch rear springs you are using in the rear and not the factory K5 front springs in the front you will gain more lift, get better axle placement, and more flex. If you plan on flexing at all you will break the stock K5 front springs.
And for more lift in the rear, make a shackle flip mount for the rear of the spring, using the factory K5 52 inch stock springs you have in the rear for best flex and a shackle flip you can gain 4 inches of lift.
Try to stay with a 35 inch tire at biggest with the 1/2 ton axles or you'll see a lot of part failure. Depending on what your exact plans are for the rig will help a great deal with what parts are going to work for you. I would suggest gearing the axles front and rear with 4.10's if you plan to go with 33-35 inch tires and offroad the truck. If you plan to go bigger, which we all know is the only way to go hah! You can obtain 8 lug swap parts from an 8 lug dana 44 or 10 bolt axles making it a 3/4 ton axle and helping slightly or go all out and get a dana 60 and be for the most part bullet proof. In the rear you can pick up a 14bff 1 ton rear end for 150-300, and never have to worry about breaking it. With the 3/4 ton front and 1 ton rear you would be good for up to 38 inch tires with good driving skill offroad, with a dana 60 and 14bff combo you'd be worry free with up to 44 inch tires. But then you'd need to upgrade to hydro steering assist and ect.
Your going to have to use crossover steering, the stock push pull steering just won't work for road or any type of higher speed driving, you would have problems with bump steer and binding. If your doing it on a budget and its going to be an offroad only vehicle then the stock K5 steering will "work"
Plan your front axle placement very carefully or you will have problems.
Its late, and I need sleep.
If you need any info, feel free to ask bro!

thanks for the info. your k5 was probably in way better condition than mine was. It was really a toss up on which vehicle to keep and the nissan had been around longer and would have needed less of an investment (before I went off the deep end) I didn't know the steering would be a problem but thanks for the heads up. haven't decided how i'm going to run the mounts for the front axle. i'll likely end up with a new front bumper that ties into the frame in order to run the springs up front. makes life easier for running a winch.
