to switch to sealed bearings he would need new hubs. unless that has even changed but hell its been 6 years since I rode

Unless the cones or cups are toast, there's no need to put money into it. Just replace the bearing, make sure it's greased up nicely and tightened right, and save the money you would have spent to get something a little nicer than a walmart bike. It takes a bit of looking, but around here you can find deals all the time on craigslist for nice bikes that people bought, rode just enough to get a little dirty, and never touched again.

I just started into making bikes. My first one here, has some serious ride issues (totally uncomfortable, and no way to power up hills), but cruises the flat pretty nice. Looks like a school shop because it is - I teach highschool shop.

It's been years since I've been on a BMX bike, I'll stick with my mountain bike. I gotta side with Skrap in flesh, those tiny sprokets gotta be wearing yer asses out.

My gearing is 30 11 which is pretty much the same as 44 16 thats the size that comes standard on older bmx bikes. But it doesnt matter much all i really ride is trails and there down hill so one crank and you got enough speed to make it through the set.

14 or 16?! I raced 44/16, 45/16 for years on 1 3/8 and 170 mm cranks...
Now I am on 38/17 24" and 180mm... 36 years old and still dirt jumpin, never too old to retrace your roots.

Ya I raced with my 47/14 setup with profile 180's on my Auburn. My dirt setup was 45/17 on my L&S Creation. and ya Joe I was one of the 4 guys that built Backwoods that later became known as Pull Until Shit Hurts

Its like 30-40 to ship a bike broken down in a bike box like you would get it when its new. If you do have to ship it go to a bike shop and get a box. We used to give them away to people who needed them when i worked at trek. Otherwise they just got thrown away.

If you do ship it make sure you put a block of wood or a spacer between the dropouts ups isnt very gentle with packages ive seen frames get bent during shipping.
