I teach high school metalwork and mechanics.
This is not the best/proper/safest way to widen a wheel. The work was done by kids, with the tools we had, on vehicles that will never see the street again.

B12 Nissan Sentra, donated to the school shop. Lowered all the way, baby. Spring rates are zero or infinity, depending on how you look at it
Widening the wheels:

Nissan 13x5 (gray), VW 13x5.5 (black). Plasma cut the outside beads off at the dropped center, plasma cut the unused center out.

Torch out what's left of the old center - cut out the spot weld section.

Clean all the paint, trial fit the two halves together, grinding as needed to eliminate any wobble.

Don't forget to drill a new hole for the valve stem.
